There’s No Crying In the Library!

Well, not anymore at least.  And for the record, I wasn’t really crying, there was just something in my eye…both my eyes…and they got really teary.  That’s all…

For the past three and a half months I have had the security of knowing a job is waiting for me this summer.  It’s a job where I will get to dabble in baking while also spending time on other hospitality-related tasks.  After talking to my mother yesterday though, I got a little freaked out.  She did not say anything to try and scare me or dissuade me from working at the inn I interviewed with over winter break.  She just wanted to make sure I would be doing what I wanted (baking) and not being suckered into laundry and pool maintenance.  She’s my mom, she’s got my best interest in mind.

Well now it’s all I can think about.  Maybe this job isn’t the right place for me.  What if I do get stuck as a pool girl and spend the whole summer smelling like chlorine?!?  OH THE HORROR!  This thought and others have been swirling around in my head all morning when I should really be studying for my LAST EVER REGULAR SEMESTER TEST (insert a huge “WOOT WOOT” here).  So what did I do?  Texted my mom.  What did she do?  Texted back immediately and then followed up with a call.  If you happened to be in the library this morning and heard some girl whispering on the phone (how rude!), it was me (sorry!).

My mom, because she is awesome, reassured me that this is not something that needs to be worried about right this second.  There is still time, at twenty one years old, to figure out where my life is headed.  Imagine that, I don’t need an entire life plan right now!  What a relief since I really don’t have one at all and it appears that summer plans are just about all I can handle at the moment.

I have since dried my eyes (must have been an eyelash…) and taken some deep breaths.  Just keep swimming, just keep swimming, just keep swimming.  There is a plan for me and I am trusting in that.  Just what this plan entails is not clear but I am ready to take it one step at a time.

Life crisis averted, it is now back to Money and Banking.

Oh and on a side-note.  I love blogging and the blogging community.  Check out the chocolate chip cookies over at lowercase letters, a blog I read on the regular.

Happy Friday people!!!

  1. I hate when that happens.. when you’ve got something in both of your eye.. :(
I’m freaking about my future too, even though I’m only a sophomore.. because time passes way too fast and there’s just so much to figure out. But yes, Maura, there definitely is a plan waiting for you, and you should listen to your mom. She sounds like a great supporter! Hope your exams go well!! :)
